  1. Cobian Backup APPLICATION AND SERVICE MODE

  6. Cobian Backup is a multi-threaded program that can be used to schedule and 
  7. backup your files and directories from their original location to other 
  8. directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your network. 
  9. FTP backup is also supported in both ways (upload and download). The program
  10. can use Volume Shadow Copy if the service is installed and supported by the OS.
  11. The program can also be remotely controlled.

  13. Cobian Backup exists in two different versions: application and service.
  14.  
  15. You can automatically backup your files once, daily, weekly, monthly, Yearly
  16. or on a timer basis. 
  17.  
  18. You can also save and open lists with different backup file sets. 
  19.  
  20. The program creates a log file which optionally can be mailed to you
  21. automatically.

  23. Cobian Backup can be used on Windows NT/2000/XP/2003,Vista, Windows 7,Windows Server 2008 
  24. or other NT based system.

  26. Cobian Backup has integrated compression capabilities, using the Zip64 or the 7z 
  27. algorithms.

  29. All the functions in the program can optionally be password protected and the 
  30. backup files can be encrypted using one of the following methods:
  31. AES-256, AES-192, AES-128 bits.

  33. Backup to and from FTP servers is possible.

  35. Install and uninstall
  36.  
  37. Important: running under NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, 
  38. you must have administrative privileges to install the program as a service. 
  39. If you have an old **major** version of the program running NEVER INSTALL the 
  40. new version into the old version's directory. Uninstall the old version first.

  42. To properly install Cobian Backup, simply run the setup program. 
  43. Choose a directory to install, for example C:\Cobian Backup and select 
  44. the installation mode:
  45.  
  46. As a service:  You will be prompted if you want to 
  47. run the service under the system account or other account. If you are 
  48. accessing network resources, you cannot run the service under the 
  49. LocalSystem account. Read more about this in the help file.

  51. As an application, autostart for any user: this option installs the 
  52. program as an application, and starts it automatically when any user 
  53. logs on.

  55. As an application, autostart the current user: option installs the
  56. program as an application, and starts it automatically when the current 
  57. user logs on.

  59. As an application, no autostart: The application must be manually 
  60. started from the icon in the start- menu.

  62. To uninstall the program, go to the Control panel- Add/delete program 
  63. and select Cobian Backup.

  65. Cobian Backup is Freeware even for commercial use. You are allowed to copy, 
  66. use and distribute the program, but only in its original package .
